Although their marriage has been constantly under scrutiny from the tabloids, we thought Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise were in it for the long haul. After 5 years of marriage, though, Holmes and Cruise are calling it quits. “This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family,” says Holmes’s attorney Jonathan Wolfe, about the actress’s plans to divorce Cruise. “Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.”

The couple, who married in November of 2006, have daughter Suri, age 6, to think about as they deal with their personal matters. Holmes, who has always maintained a low profile during her marriage to Cruise, will no doubt deal with the divorce as quietly as possible. This was the first marriage for the actress and the third for Cruise, who was previously married to Nicole Kidman and Mimi Rodgers.
