The summer blockbusters continue coming this week with a couple of movies that may or not not be able to overcome last week’s champ Madagascar. The one with the best chance is relying on Tom Cruise’s popularity and ability to sing. The other stars the reigning Golden Raspberry king Adam Sandler. That leaves an Ethan Hawke thriller as the final new flick this weekend.
Rock of Ages is based on the hit musical about a small town girl meeting a big city guy and their attempt at pursuing their dreams. Tom Cruise plays an 80′s rock star, and he actually sings his own music. This could be a huge hit, or a colossal failure. It all depends on what fans are in the mood for, and whether or not they are in the mood for a musical.
Adam Sandler walked away with the most Golden Raspberry awards ever for his last flick, and by the looks of the trailers for That’s My Boy, he’s aiming for a repeat. This time around he plays father to Andy Samberg’s character. The pair haven’t seen each other for years, and then when his son is getting married the father reappears. It’s hard to believe that this is Adam Sandler’s first raunchy comedy. Leighton Meester and Susan Sarandon co-star.
Ethan Hawke has kind of dropped off the radar in the last few years, but he’s back in the thriller The Woman In The Fifth. This movie is about a disgraced former college lecturer who finds himself mixed up with a possible murderer in Paris.
