Canadian stars and Viggo Mortensen came out to support The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television’s Genie Awards honoring the best in Canadian cinema. Real Style had the opportunity to chat with some of the star presenters and nominees on the red carpet and behind the scenes.
George Stroumboulopoulos on Canadian cinema: “I believe we tell better stories as we are not always only focused on the business side of making movies.”
Martin Katz, producer of A Dangerous Method on not getting the Oscar nod: “I’m truly mystified. On the other hand I’m very happy on the worldwide acceptance the film has received.” The film, directed by David Cronenberg, went on to win 5 Genies including best supporting actor for Viggo Mortensen and achievement in art direction for James McAteer.
Allan Hawco, producer and star of The Republic Of Doyle, before the awards: “I can almost guarantee that Viggo is going to win something.” And he did!
Sarah Gadon, actress in A Dangerous Method, on the film: “I knew this was going to be a star making role when I first read the script.”
Karine Vanasse, ‘Collette’ from television show Pan Am, about the show: “I love doing the show. We will know if we are renewed in May, in the meantime I’m excited to be at the Genies.”
