Recently in Toronto we caught up with the latest dynamic duo in house renovation reality tv. Property Brothers hosted by Drew and Jonathan Scott offers a few new twists to the genre. To start off with Jonathan is a licenced contractor in real life and both brothers have years of real estate experience, so they are able to bring in real life experience to the show.
Real Style: How did you get into this?
Drew : Property Brothers is the perfect show for us! Not only do we have real estate backgrounds, we have also been acting since we were kids and even have a film production company. Jonathan is also a professional illusionist and magician, as the matter of fact we both now reside in Las Vegas and are pursuing entertainment opportunities there… After the producers approached us we jumped at the chance to share our building expertise and have fun hosting the show.
Jonathan: I’m probably the only licenced contractor who is also a host of one of these shows. I have built houses from the ground up and have worked on many commercial projects as well. When we actually come to renovate a house on the show, I often know what I can anticipate and am prepared to deal with it… calmly.
Real Style: How is doing a TV renovation show different then renovating a real house?
Drew & Jonathan: First off, we have to work on a much faster schedule because you have a show to shoot. We have 3 crews who have done the full house renovations you see on tv in 4 to 6 weeks. In real life it can drag on… you just can’t do that with a show to shoot. Also, we work with the actual budgets that you see on the show. So if the home owner has $50,000 to spend, then this is what we work with. In real life the budgets can be much bigger or smaller.
Real Style: Has anything happened on the show behind the scenes with the home owners that we don’t get to see?
Drew: Yeah, lots of drama with the home owners. You have couples fighting and even worse. On the last show, the house owners actually took off for most of the renovation and we were left on our own.
Real Style: The two guys who went to Barcelona? We thought that was fixed for the show!
Jonathan: No, they actually left. In any case it worked out fine, because if they didn’t like something after it was all done… too bad at that point. Didn’t come to that though, they loved everything they saw!
Real Style: What’s next for the dynamic duo?
Drew: We are looking forward to next season of the Property Brothers and hope to shoot double the amount of episodes. We would love to see a show like that expand to the States as well. We also want to pursue film opportunites with our production company.
Jonathan: And I want my own magic/illusion show in Las Vegas! I was ranked as one of the top three magicians in North America and am ready for a comeback…
Since we needed proof that magical skills were not just focus/pocus, Jonathan was put to the performance test. He magically produced a loonie from an unsuspecting back of ear and managed to get Drew to pay for lunch! Well, we were convinced and hence kept a close eye on our valuables! Looks like the sky is the limit for these two talented and very tall ( 6’5″) siblings. Propety Brothers runs tonight on the W Network at 10 pm. EST.

Cute show, watching it now…I like how they can show what the house will look like before hand
it’s ok, not as good as love it or list it…we’ll have to keep watching to see if I like it
Love It or List It has more fighting and raised voices. Property Brothers are calm. (I like calm.) All depends on personal preference. I do like the end results of both programs. Love the programs that have the 3D computer program. The renovation ideas are super. The brothers are sweet young folks. Hurray for niceness.
I saw the show last week, I really enjoyed it. I love how they can show the whole reno in that 3D computer program. I can never visualize what places will look like when they start talking about taking down walls but with that 3D program you actually get to see exactly what it will look at. The two brothers are petty cute too!
I haven’t seen the show yet but I will look out for it, the brothers sound pretty interesting.
I caught an episode, it was ok. Maybe they should work some little magic tricks into it to liven it up, the out takes are funny, maybe they should keep them as part of the show
I love the show, i’ve been hooked since the first episode, i’ll even watch the reruns………and i think there amazing at what they do, how they do it, and the patience they have to do it……….plus i love they way they are with eachother, nice to see family coming together to do something positive and amazing…..i am a big fan…………
I love the show. I am amazed at the changes they can make in a house. I was telling my daughter about the show today and we both would love to have the brothers do over our homes. I have twin boys as well. Such fun raising twins. Catherine
Just watched two episodes and I don’t think it was said in what city you are working in. That would be nice to know. It’s my husband who thinks that this is important. Is it always in Toronto?
Great show.
Heather
Love the show. Especially important to hear $$$ attached to projects which some shows leave out. Great work. How can I hear you guys to do my condo?!?!!!
I like these guys. I enjoy their personalities and banter, and I really like the concept of the show – turning a dump into a palace on a budget. I like hearing about how things need to be sacrificed to accommodate unwelcome demolition surprises. It’s great teaching for those who are renovating to expect these things.
Does anyone know what 3D software they use to show what the end result will be of each renovation???
Great idea for a show so why insult viewers with rooms that are obviously “staged” messy. Curtains falling down and drapped across the floor, dirty dishes, someone in the bed?! Come on…rundown homes are unsightly enough as is.
Let the show stand on it’s own merit and give the audience credit for having some intelligence. A certain amount of fakeness is required due to time limits. Over fake is not fun to watch…it’s annoying.
Rhonda, I sold real estate for years, and I can assure you that it was not unusual to show messy houses. Some were worse than messy – they were downright gross & disgusting. While I know staging does go on for some of these TV shows, I would bet money that the messiness of the houses on this show is not staged.
I love the Property Brothers show…always TVR it. They’re a lot of fun to watch and also love seeing something good recycled and enhanced instead of demolished for some cookie cutter styled new construction.
Love the show. We watch it religiously at my house. How can we get them to help us find a house and renovate it to our dream home. We need help!!
Thank you very much
I saw the show on Sunday, May 29. It was great. Two bothers hamming it up who know how to get the job done.
Can I get my house done? I need help to renovate, paint, nothing to major.
Regards,
Richard
I want my house done too, how do you contact the property brothers? Do they have a number or do we schedule an appointment online?
love the show. expand to an hour, will yah? the reveal feels rushed and that is the best part!
Props to the guys. I love how they always deliver everything the homeowners want and stay on budget(unlike someone frm love it or list is…seriously does she eat money?)They are also a joy to watch. Really nice and funny guys. JOnathan really wrks his magic on the houses;)
What a smashing duo. Good looks, good ideas and a niceness that can’t be faked.
Rhonda, I don’t think the messy houses are staged. I’ve looked at a lot of real estate and some of it looks as bad as they show, and some of it is even worse.
I totally agree, Donna. It amazes me how some people list their home and allow realtors to show it to prospective buyers when it is filthy and messy. I’ve shown houses with dirty dishes on the kitchen table, counter, and in the sink – with half-eaten food that had clearly been there for over a week.
Is there anyone here in St. Louis who does comparable make-overs such as yourselves.
We saw your show, how you can take junk and make it ok. We have recently retired and have a very small budget. Can you help. Thank you
I love this show! I don’t watch alot of TV, but I always make time for these guys! These guys are talented, knowledgeable, nice, funny and awesomely handsome. I wish they would come help me out in Kansas!
we’re looking into buying our first home around January or February, and we think our budget will be too tight. Watching the show made me think that buying an old house and rennovating it might be the best suitable for my families budget. How can we contact the property brothers for this.
What design software do you use when previewing the proposed interior changes with the homeowners?
Love Property Brothers. I was also interested in their personal life as well. Do they have any other brothers or sisters?
They have an older brother who is a writer and a part of their production company (can’t remember the name).
Interested in who was born first? What are your dislikes and likes? What kind of women are you attracked to?
The property brothers show is so utterly bad that it’s almost entertaining. It is obviously staged, the homebuyers are fake, and the brothers are creepy. I’m shocked that HGTV shows this crap.
I can understand why your name is BS
That’s not fair, Pam. I find them creepy, too,, and the work presented is not that great. My husabnd and i were just watching, and we still framed on a tile backsplash (because it was very similar – if not the same- as one we recently had done). It was quite poorly done. I
I am also surprised HGTV lets this go. It jades their other good shows.
Janet, Pam and BS, if you hate the show
so much, why are you here posting? I am
always amazed by people who will go to
lengths to post negative comments. I love
The Property Brothers. I watch every episode
I can. You are entitled to your opinion.
If you don’t like the show, why don’t you
go and post on a website for a show you DO
like? You know that old saying, “If you
can’t say something nice….” just saying.
Seriously? Do you people turn your brain off when you turn this show on or what? Same crap every episode with shocked homebuyers painfully faking that they are not remotely aware that the beautiful home they are viewing is way out of their budget. Every moment of this show is contrived. Honestly the creepy brothers need a new formula or acting lessons.
I live in the States and would like to know, why is it that you guys never give the location of your houses. I am thinking of relocating to Toronto, any ideas on location. I’ve never lived in Canada
Thank you. Great show by the way.
Are you kidding? Haven’t you noticed the prices? $450,000 for a hundred year old dump, half of a two family house, tiny lot, few windows in run-down neighborhood. Pitiful.
Rooms they redo are nice, but those houses are old, and they are always at the top of the owners budget. They never show the upstairs, bathrooms ( and you know those are gross), or talk about the cost of heat/ac renovations.
The homes are not always at the top of the homeowners budget. I recently saw one where after buying the home, they still had a remodel budget of just over $200,000.
I absolutely love this show! The brothers have great taste and they show the reality of todays real estate. You can get what you want and not have to pay an arm and a leg! Can’t wait to see what’s next!!
The Property Brothers is not that good. Or maybe it’s that there is too much of a creepy factor about them for me to watch.. I just can’t.
The creepy factor here is, if you really dislike these guys why are you keeping track of them?,posting again and again on their interview, we all are entitle to have an opinion but you seem to know their work pretty good for somebody that dislike the show so much. The difference is that they have a show and you are just a sad homeowner working on their own house…HATERS are so sad =(
I agree totally. Why are people here if they
don’t like the show or the brothers? It just
doesn’t make sense. Personally, it is one of
my favorite shows. I think the brothers are
great and very talented. I wish them much
success.
Seriously, this is a forum to discuss the Property Brothers’ show – nowhere was it specified that all the comments must be glowing, ravishing accolades about the brothers or the show. It never fails to astound me how whenever people post critiques or criticizing responses some people are so quick to label them haters or trolls or inquire why they are even posting! Hello, ever heard of free speech?! This is about discussing your opinions, whatever they may be. Don’t be so pompous as to think your opinion is always right, I think of you people as “opinion haters”. I actually happen to like their show and MOST of the redos they have done, but enjoy reading everyone’s comments- no matter which way they feel.
I find this show mostly irritating. These brothers promise people they can give them their dream house for a specific price. Many times they run into problems and the buyer has to cut back and keep old furniture to make the budget. Much of this could be avoided by getting a good inspection and not buying properties with such problems. They don’t get great deals on many houses with all the problems they have. I think it is an insult to people with logic. Anybody can get a show these days!
Have the likes, dislikes of all comments above. Still love the concept of this show, would however like to know if they do all the rooms in a house or is the budget just for the 2 or 3 rooms they focus on? It would be way too depressing not to get the whole house done.
At least show all of the house, because it can give other people a false sense of remodels if those budgets don’t cover everything. Being an architect I understand how much HGTV puts into these homes and how much is probably donated, but show what happens in the whole house.
Does the remodel cost include the furniture or do the owners have to buy that or give it back?
Still think they are doing good things for old properties.
Agree that many of the properties seem extremely expensive for the work that is needed.
But thanks for a terrific concept.
I love these guys and would like to know when will they be taping in the U.S. I really need help in the process of buying a new home. By the way I don’t see anything creepy about them. What I do find amusing is the fact every time Scott torn down a wall it seems to be load bearing and homeowners has to come up extra within the budget to fix it…Why not just budget in to the possibilities. Hilarious at it’s best.
i watch hoping one of the guys will take their shirts off, they both r so cute
Great and unique DUO, perfect skills combination. Love them both, specially JONATHAN. Good luck with your new goals. Keep it up!!!
I love this show and Jonathan is hot!!! I wish they’d do these shows in California, but Real Estate is crazy in Ca.
PROPERTY BROTHERS ARE “THAT GOOD”! I WISH THEY COME TO MY HOUSE!
They are both really feminine. Blonde hilights? Really?
What does that have to do with RENOVATIONS!!
metoo says
I really love the show. It’s one of my “favorites”. I have also been watching since the very 1st episode reruns and all. Never get tired of watching them (they’re both so cute too). People are so critical and jealous and says anything about someone trying to exploit their skills, talents and character. Keep up the good work Jonathan and Drew. I totally agree with you Jennjah about the show.
I like the show. I don’t expect “reality” from these shows. It’s notable they often don’t show the parts of the house the renovation budget didn’t cover, especially as some of those parts are often pretty bad. People get dream kitchens, but not full dream homes.
Oh, and as a straight woman, these guys are not attractive. They are very obviously gay.
Know your post is old, but had to comment…
Jonathan (the contractor) has been married before, so he is def NOT gay. I wonder if he had the blond highlights to help the audience know the difference betw the 2, as they are identical twins. He no longer has them, by the way. He has also said on his Twitter that he and Drew like the same type of girls. I have met them in person and I do not get any type of “gay vibes” off of them, esp Jonathan. I think Drew is more of a “metrosexual” in my opinion. They are very nice in person and really nice to their fans, answering all their questions on FB and Twitter themselves. They are good guys so don’t knock them. Most of the show this season that is getting ready to start is being shot in Austin, TX.
steve sabados from designer guys was married. then he turned out gay. no one knows the property brothers’ sexuality besides themselves and their bedmates.
Juliana, as someone who’s always had numerous gay friends, you should know that just because someone is married or has been married before does not mean without a doubt that they are straight. Ever thought that maybe that’s the reason that someone USED to be married and they’re now divorced (the fact that they are really gay)? That being said, I too, happen to think they are straight (though my gaydar works best when I meet someone in person!) but you can’t 100% assume someone’s sexuality based on their past, just sayin….
Good show, but I don’t believe that the renos can be done for the amounts indicated. There is no way an entire house can be gutted, walls moved, brand new kitchen, bathroom, etc all for $50,000. Impossible. Kind of ruins the whole concept.
My daughter and I watch this show quite often. We don’t understand why they show the whole “before” house but only renovate the lower level and never show the finished upstairs. Do the upstairs get renovated too? Or do the reno budgets only cover the downstairs? If so, why do they show the “before” upstairs if it won’t be renovated and included in the final reveal?
I agree. I always wondered what happened with the ‘rest of the bouse’ although I must say they have FABULOUS TASTE! I am addicted to the show. Their designs are phenomeal! I love it! The brothers are fun, talented, lively and absolutely wonderful in my opinion!
How can I contact the brothers?
I love this show. I can see the potential in homes – I bought one no one wanted. When will you come to the states? I will be downsizing soon and need to stay in a much smaller budget. I would be very interested in the property brothers help. I am near Boston MA.
How I can contact the brothers, I really need their help because we’re planning to buy a house which we can afford and it’s our dream home
Please contact me. Thank you so much!
I really love your show”….
How does a struggling man get a makeover in Dayton , Ohio such as the ones on tv. Seems like my neck of the woods gets jipped in things of that sort.I have a gutted home right now andneed major help on a shoestring budget . ( being Honest) Divorced and trying to get back to simple modest life.HELP!!!!!!
Can you provide contact information for The Property Brothers – would like to speak to them & possible hire them
How do I get the 2 brothers to come and help us renovate our kitchen in our oakville home?
They seem to be the most effective duo in getting the right solution at the right budget.
Tony
This show is so painfully bad that it is fun to watch. The formula is horrible. I don’t actually think the homebuys are real people. I think they are just bad actors. If you haven’t seen it you owe it to yourself to witness the worst show on HGTV.
Wow! Doesn’t you remote work? Change the channel if you don’t like it so much.
Seriously, Jeremy? And all of the other ‘haters’ out there in I-don’t-have-great-success-in-my-life Land: Please remember that it’s TV…certain elements are 100% real and certain element are for entertainment value. We are a much more sophisticated audience nowadays, so why all the flack? I view the show and the more I tune in, the more I appreciate it and them. The show’s great Pro Bros! And good on ya for stepping outside of the box and realizing some of your dreams! Best of luck.
-P.S. Please more adventures in Canuck Land!
To get a hold of the Property Brothers contact the W Network. http://wnetwork.com/ContactUs.aspx
does anyone else agree that if Jonathan had blonder hair these two brothers would look like the two main guys from that cartoon movie The Road to El Dorado?
You know, I googled Property Brother and Road to Eldorado because I thought the same thing and found your post. My youngest daughter brought it to my attention. They look just like them!
For those of you who hate the show, flip the channel. Or better yet, go to Hgtv and try to do what they are doing. Fake clients or not, just get the idea they are trying to give us. You dont need to buy a super expensive house when renovations can be made when buying a cheaper place. And what’s so creepy about them? I only see their skills, talents, and ambition to keep growing in their career. Haters, they are getting ahead in their career while you cooperate watching their show. So continue with your support by watching their next episode. Losers!
Agreed – buying a fixer upper, in most cases, is better; reuse, renew, recycle. They are ambitious, Wikipedia tells me that not only have they been pursuing TV careers since they were children, but Jonathan is also an award-winning illusionist in Las Vegas in his spare time. “Now you see your money. Now you don’t!!!”
Disagree – these dudes are creepy.
However, entertaining show. Not believable, but funny.
The best show on HGTV! These guys know what they are doing!
So what if they are gay. Jonathan knows what he’s doing and is good at what he does. You’re saying gay men aren’t butch enough to handle manly tools? Give me a break! He can work on my house anytime!
They are gorgeous, interetesting, talented…i like to fantasize they are gay at least!
I love this show! It is amazing how they transform these homes. I watch as many shows as I can. I have never been disappointed in the finished product. Keep up the good work guys. Oh yeah, those property brothers are soo cute too. Your parents are probably very proud of you.
Great show and fun to watch how they transform these junk pits of houses. Plus the brothers are pretty hot!!
I would like to buy a property in the down town area and do the renovations to improve the property-Jonathan and Drew Scott
Hey, I just love the show. How can I get them to do my house. It would be a dream come true.
Jonathan said recently at a party we were at that they don’t have time to do jobs outside of the show, but he can give those who ask names of contractors that he has worked with and thinks are reputable.
I love ur show.My foster parents love ur show and need your help
Just started watching it on W. I envy Jonathan’s job, looks like a lot of fun because of the tools and the creativity involved. Kudos to Drew, it must be a challenge to get negotiations down, and so far he always gets the house!
home price is no deal who sells a house in that condition
the $60G+ to reno kitchen and paint a couple of rooms
not a great deal
reno the house in 4 weeks ok
but this is after all the permits are got and design finished
thoughts on show format BS
does your question assume that we are idiots?
The show’s pretty good and obviously the twins know what they’re doing. The show gives people ideas what they can do to their own home or dream about it. The shows entertaining and I don’t believe they use actors. The whole house isn’t being renovated like in similar reality shows but it’s a lot better than nothing. Maybe later the owners get a loan and finish the house?? For the haters..grab the remote and click.. and for those who think the twins are creepy..get real and admit your homophobic.
Dear Property Brothers,
If you can ever come to the South Florida area please sign me up. You guys are awesome. Your vision is inspiring! I don’t know if you ever heard of Chinese drywall but I had to get out and short sale a home due to this. Now I have to move back into a rental home we owned that needs to be updated. I have an extreme lack of vision. Love your show hope you stay on for a long time to come. Come to Florida!
Drew and Jonathan are two very talented guys, the show is fun to watch and it’s always interesting to see the finished product. And they are easy on the eyes to watch! As to the negative comments others have posted here, I think you are jealous of their talent, their good looks, success, and their TV show. We should all be so talented. HGTV, Thank You for this show. LOVE IT! Waiting for some new episodes.
I wish there was a website or page to hear what the homeowners of the show have to say….and their views on the brothers. I think the whole show is staged and I liked it at first but now I’m bored. I don’t really buy into the brothers sure they look good but they are lame and their humor is lame. I want them to go away.
Not sure I like the approach of showing high end homes to people who can’t afford them – then moving to renovation properties. Also, we don’t get to see the entire house renovated only certain rooms, leaving me to think that the budgets you set do not encompass the entire project. I work for a builder and one thing I haven’t seen on your show is flatwork. The outside of the house (curb appeal)doesn’t seem to be a part of renovations. That being said, I will still watch your show, it entertaining.
AMEN, enjoy seeing the before/after on this show, but they are brought to the top of their budgets and they are always left with a gross bathroom or whatever rooms the Brothers don’t touch. Don’t understand this piece. DVR the show and after the reveal, go back to first walk-through and imagine what they are left with, the rooms that haven’t been rennovated. They have no more money to fix those areas. Can somebody explain this to me?
I thought the same thing! Couple in the last show I watched was left with disgusting carpets and bathroom upstairs and a beautiful modern downstairs. Does this make sense?
I LOVE THERE SHOW IAM PLANING TO RENOVATE MY HOUSE TOO BUT IT IS OVER MY BUDGETS. I WISH ONE DAY THEY WILL FIX MY HOUSE TOO
They have said that they actually reno the whole house, but timewise they can only show a few of the rooms on tv. I love the show and think it is getting better every year. They are starting to do renos in mulitple areas of the US for the show so that should be interesting. Austin Tx is first to appear on the show. They are really nice guys in person and have worked very hard to get where they are.
I love the show find the designs very interesting and gives me great ideas. Except for the pink kitchen in the Barcellona couples home.
my Fiance and I love your show, you guys have a lot of talent, and very funny! expecially when you guys show the first house that they think their buying but their not.
I enjoy the show. I do not care if it’s planned. But I wish someone would tell us if the whole house gets finished. In the beginning they showed us all the rooms now they don’t, does that mean they only finish the rooms they show? Could you please answer soon. I have ovarian cancer and am on hospice, which doesn’t mean that my demise is immediate but I would like an answer at least in the next few weeks.
Thank you, Sherron.
Sherron, here is a quote from Jonathan taken from a really interesting article dated March 13, 2012. Read the entire article at: http://westlifebunny.newsvine.com/_news/2012/03/13/10658295-the-two-skillful-brothers-scott-tvs-property-brothers-finding-and-building-dream-homes
“What viewers don’t realize is that the pricing showcased on the show of $40,000 to $50,000 for renovation are only for three or four rooms previewed during the hour. The whole house is actually renovated but because time constraints, to renovate the entire house for the audiences watching in one hour would be too much information. After the viewing parts are fully renovated, the team goes back to the rest of the house to ensure buyers have their dream home.”
I love the Property Brothers show. I watch it every week, I am curious how busy you are with current projects? Furthermore, how would a person go about contacting you for your help
IN EXTREME WISH MODE! I watch property brothers all the time and think they are magic workers. I am just a Simple Southern Georgia Girl. I am a teacher and my husband is a supervisor for manufacturing company. Together we have one child that is eight and would like to one day have another. We currently live in double wide mobile home that we have redone. But I am not found of living in this forever. We have found a house. But the house needs to be totally redone. I want to know how can you get the property brothers to consider to help? This would be a dream come true for this Simple South Georgia Girl
I seen Johathan and Drew on our early morning new the other day, and what was said is that they live in Vancouver, BC Canada. I sure hope that is true. They never state where the shows are located, that would be nice to know as well. I love there show, I watch it all the time. Looking forward to the new shows. The best of every thing in all you set out to do.
My brother took sick right after my husband and I downn sided to a condo on the beach..While we cared for my brother only to walk in and find my husband on the floor gone..My brother past 7days later..This beach condo was our dream and had so many plans but now I can’t even walk the beach and I’m ready to just walk away..I can’t find anything….I never felt so lost in my life an have no idea what to do..Any advice on how to get the brothers?? Lost in Florida Linda M
Well I know I will never meet th Pro Bro to do dream work for me. I love the show! I too wonder if they did the whole home ,anyhow I just want to know how do I look for professional in my area that does the same type of work as far as the remodeling that 3d stuff they do on computer. Would love someone suggestions thanks
