Carrie Underwood has gotten her first movie role. The country singer will play a church youth leader in the upcoming movie Soul Surfer. The movie is about Bethany Hamilton, the 19 year old surfer who lost her arm in a shark attack. According to US Magazine filming is underway in Hawaii. Soul Surfer also stars Helen Hunt and Dennis Quaid.

Joe Simpson, the father of Jessica and Ashlee, is getting his own show. Joe is working with Nickelodeon to create a sitcom based on his life. The Hollywood Reports says that it will be about a psychologist trying to raise his two daughters.

American Idol producers want shock-jock radio star Howard Stern to replace Simon Cowell when he leaves the show next year. The New York Post reports that American Idol producers have approached Howard Stern. They say Stern is sending mixed messages. American Idol needs someone exciting to replace Cowell, but isn’t Howard Stern too much for prime time television?
