We love the fashion Gossip Girl shows off, but next week they are going to be stripping it off for a rumoured threesome between a few of the main characters.
The racy ad and storyline has got a parent’s group in the US in a tizzy. They believe that CW Network shouldn’t air the sexy episode. In a letter to the CW they say that airing it would be “reckless and irresponsible.”
The Parent’s Television Council got a reply from The CW saying that Gossip Girl is not aimed at their impressionable teenagers. They find that idea “laughable.”
The letter also says: Gossip Girl routinely depicts teenage characters engaging in promiscuous and consequence-free sexual behavior, and that’s bad enough. But will you now be complicit in establishing a precedent and expectation that teenagers should engage in behaviors heretofore associated primarily with adult films? Behaviors not only increase health risks, but are emotionally and psychologically damaging to participants as well. I certainly hope not…
This isn’t the first time Gossip Girl has ticked off concerned parents and it probably won’t be the last. Actually all of this attention will probably push their kids to sneak out and see what all of the fuss is about.
