Q: What are the key beauty trends for summer?

A: Definitely colour, either in the eye or with bright eyeliners or a bold lip or even in the cheek. It’s all about colour.

Q: One of the biggest colour trends is inspired by Pantones ‘Tangerine Tango’. How can we work this vibrant shade into our beauty routine?

A: Let’s say you are someone who uses a lot of natural tones and so the thought of using an intense red, or the orange or even a fuchsia can be daunting, I would say go for sheer, Like the Elizabeth Arden 8-hour sheer lip tint. It’s a great way to ease yourself into going for the full on colour. Or even using a really bright eyeshadow as eyeliner. You are slowly easing it into your lifestyle but still using colour.

Q: What’s the best way to apply foundation during the hot and humid months?

A: Definitely doing something sheer all over and just going in and spot covering with a full coverage concealer. Either it’s doing a sheer tinted moisturizer, the Pure Mineral Finish Tinted Moisturizer or the Flawless Finish Mousse, which are both really sheer and easy foundations and tinted moisturizers. It just keeps it really sheer and soft and then going in with a flawless finish full coverage concealer. That’s how I do my makeup, I do something sheer and then clean up whatever blemishes I have visiting. Also, don’t always keep powdering the face, a lot of women tend to do that. Especially for someone who is oily, powder initially when you walk out of the house but then carry blotting papers to absorb the excess oil. If you continue to powder it can build up and cause that cakeyness and the colour can oxidize from the heat.

Q: What do you think is the number one beauty mistake that women make during the summer?

A: Too much makeup. They wear the same exact look that they were wearing in the winter and it doesn’t work in the summer. Makeup is an accessory, so soften it. It doesn’t mean that you have to go and buy all new makeup but whatever you’re using at that moment, use less of it or change it up. Make it a little softer.

Q: What are your must have beauty items for the summer?

A: Definitely sunscreen, because it’s the best anti-aging product on the market and you need to have it in your skincare, I’m a full believer of that. Blotting papers, a light powder that I dust on and a sheer tinted lip colour. You always need a little colour for summer otherwise you look super pale because everything is so bright around you.

Last night the stars of ‘Snow White and The Huntsman’ attended the London premiere of their movie, and Charlize Theron wore a revealing sheer Dior Couture dress. The actress, who plays the evil queen in the movie, paired the sultry dress with a black smoky eye look that has inspired us to try the look for our next big event.

Charlize’s look starts with a nice pink blush. Anything light and rosy will work, as long as you apply it lightly. This look should revolve around the bold eye. Next choose a light pink lipstick that looks natural to your lips. Do like Charlize and choose a more matte lipstick as a opposed to a gloss.

Finally for the eye, line the eye fully in a dark liner. Smudge out the corners and create a cat eye with charcoal and black eyeshadows. Fill the inner corners of your eye with a lighter grey shadow, completing the sultry evil queen look.

Real Style: Can you explain the different hairstyles you did for the America’s Next Top Model runway?

Rossa Jurenas: We had storyboards that we created and really followed what were trends right now. Some of the key trends that we have right now are braiding. Braids are huge, they are seen everywhere in movies right now like the Hunger Games and Snow White and The Huntsman. The halo braid, a side braid, the fishtail, we were really focused on those looks but we made it a little bit more runway. We made it really soft and pretty.

Real Style: Other than the braid, what else do you think is something quick and easy that girls can do for Summer?

Rossa Jurenas: It’s been like this for a while, but more of a curl to the hair, adding a wave not ringlets but creating more of that beachy tousled look. The difference is instead of keeping it set, take a brush and comb it out so you get a softer look. You can even incorporate a braid into that, something small across the forehead. The key is to not be perfect. Do not be worried about that piece sticking out because guaranteed that piece sticking out probably looks amazing. Do not be so concerned about having it right, that is the whole point of today’s looks.

Real Style: Do you think the fishtail braid is something you can do on yourself?

Rossa Jurenas: Definitely. It may seem hard but it really isn’t. Just grab random pieces and it’s really quick.

Real Style: The halo braid that was seen at Valentino was also a huge trend, do you think women can create that look at home?

Rossa Jurenas: I do, but I think it would be a bit more of a challenge because braiding to the back to the nape of your neck could be hard but it’s definitely achievable, if you do get a funny braid where it’s sticking up, you can just pin it down with a couple of bobby pins. Keep it loose and keep it soft.

Real Style: Sport inspired dressing was all over the spring runways and with the excitement about the Olympics, sporty trends are huge right now, do you know any hairstyles that tie into that?

Rossa Jurenas: Definitely, a lot of collections now are actually taking the Olympics into consideration. For Schwarzkopf we have a collection called ‘Essential Looks’ and one of trends is called ‘Sports Junkies’ it is brand new out for this season and the focus is the Olympics. It is hair that looks stylish but you can still put your hands through it and it just looks good all the way around. It is for the athlete and the person who likes to go to the gym all of the time. We showcased a lot of short and medium length hair cuts.

Real Style: What hairstyle other than the ponytail works for the girl who is going to the gym all of the time?

Rossa Jurenas: Again, the braid keeps it high fashion. Some key products right now help slick the hair back. If you did do that, you could slick the hair back and kind of leave it down a bit, I would leave the braid in the front, instead of doing the traditional ponytail. You can definitely make it look good. If someone has shorter hair I would just run the product through it and leave it disheveled.

Real Style: What products would you use to create the wet look that we also saw on the runway?

Rossa Jurenas: Schwarzkopf has a product called Aqua Slide and it is for that idea. You can put a little bit in your hands and run it through your hair before going to the gym and it gives you that wet and disheveled look, it definitely ties in to the Olympic feeling.

The line, which is expected to launch in late 2013, is a natural next step for the designer.

The press release announcing the new beauty line had Louboutin saying, “Twenty years ago I started what I thought would be a small adventure, which ended up becoming a company. The beauty adventure is a natural extension for someone like me, who likes to empower women and to be a part of creating beauty seems like the right next step.” He wants the beauty line to mirror the designs seen in his fashions, so fans of his design line are already getting excited.

Some fans of Christian Louboutin are talking about the new line on Twitter, with a few talking  about how a red lipstick made by Christian Louboutin to match his famous shoe soles would be great. We will definitely be on the look out for the new beauty line by the famed designer.

Unilever is launching a new line of haircare called Clear Scalp & Hair Beauty Therapy, and Heidi Klum has just signed on as the face for the product. While Unilever is known for their beauty brands, with TRESemme, Dove and Suave being just a few of their brands, Clear Scalp & Hair Beauty Therapy is being hyped as a new kind of haircare.

The new Clear Scalp line is said to feed the scalp of your hair to make it thicker and healthier, as opposed to focusing on the ends of your hair which they say most lines do. The line of shampoos and conditioners uses vitamins and nutrients to strengthen the hair from the root, and will be on shelves in stores starting this month.

Heidi Klum is officially endorsing the product, and has said the line strengthens her hair while making it smell sweet. Soon you’ll be able to see Heidi and her lovely hair featured in the print campaign for the beauty line. We wonder if it will be as surprising as her last ad for Astor Cosmetics.

Estee Lauder Youth-Dew Eau de Parfum Spray, $32: This perfume has been around for more than 50 years, and is packaged in a bottle styled after the original packaging. The scent has notes of rose and lavender and is sure to please mom. It also doesn’t hurt that the name of the perfume is so nice.

Smith’s Rosebud Salve, $6: At only $6, this classic product might be nice as a part of a beauty basket for mom. This salve, which has been around for more than a century, is a no fail winner with women. It can be used as a lip balm, for minor burns, on dry skin, and more. It’s a lot of products in one and comes in a cute vintage-looking container.

Coty Airspun Powder, $7: This beauty go-to item has been around since 1935, and like the other products on this list comes in adorable vintage packaging. The powder can be used in place of foundation or to set your makeup. It can also be used to control shine. A nice addition to any mom’s beauty bag.

Benefit High Beam, $26: This complexion enhancer is applied to cheeks and brow bones to create a rosy glow. The colour is universally flattering and has been adding a glow to ladies everywhere since 1976.

Chanel No 5, $64 : Created in 1921, this classic Chanel scent is a proven winner with ladies everywhere. I don’t think I know any mother who would be unhappy to have this gift on Mother’s Day.
