Spring 2013 Beauty Trends At New York Fashion Week

Will nails be even more eccentric than last year? Are loose curls still the rage? Here are the best beauty trends from the Spring/Summer 2013 shows at New York Fashion Week, so you can get a headstart on the beauty trends for next year!

The Center Part
At Jill Stuart, Thakoon, Alexander Wang and Prabal Gurung, models rocked the center part. While the center part is almost always trending in the beauty world, what makes it new for Spring 2013 is that hair is also worn straight and slicked back, making the look more severe. Models even rocked ponytails with a center part at Thakoon, which is a cool way to update a simple updo. Our favourite center part was definitely at Alexander Wang, where models wore a strip of electrical tape on their middle part, highlighting the dramatic hair statement. How good does Liberty Ross look modeling for Alexander Wang in the photo above?

Wild Nails

At the Peter Som show, Zoya Nails colour designer Rebecca Isa put a twist on the French manicure by painting nails mint green and then adding orange to the tips. At Rodarte, models rocked cross-hatched pattern nude nails crafted by CDN manicurists. It took the manicurists 15 minutes to create each nail. That’s 150 hours for 30 sets in total! At 3.1 Phillip Lim, an essie manicurist painted nails grey on the left side and taupe on the other side (in essie Brooch The Subject and essie Chinchilly). Our favourite nails were definitely at Prabal Gurung where Tracylee painted her now famous “dripping blood” manicure on models’ finger tips. We told you how to get the look in our post: New York Fashion Week Nail Trend: Blood-Dripped Nails.

Red Lips
While eye makeup was minimal at a lot of the Spring 2013 shows, we loved that bold red lips are sticking around for Spring 2013. At Jason Wu (pictured above), M.A.C. makeup artists Diance Kendal used M.A.C. Lip Pencil in Cherry before matching a red lipstick to each model’s skin tone. At Carlos Miele, Maybelline artist Gato applied Maybelline Color Sensational Lipcolor in Red Revival to models’ lips.

Big Brows
Go big or go home! That’s what spring 2013 is all about for brows, anyway. At Marc Jacobs (pictured above), NARS makeup founder Francois Nars added dark eye shadow (NARS Matte Eyeshadows in Bali and Bengali, to be exact) to models’ arches, given them a Brooke Shields circa 1988 dose of awesomeness. At Lacoste, Maybelline makeup artist Mayia Alleaume used Maybelline Eye Studio Master Shape Brow Pencil to create bolder looking brows and then sealed them with a coat of Maybelline Great Lash Clear Mascara. We are definitely trying that!

Bold Coloured Hair Extensions

Will hair dye be the new nail polish of 2013? It certainly looks that way! We’re used to celebrities like Kelly Osbourne, P!NK, Katy Perry and Avril Lavigne having fun with their hair colour, but we’ve rarely seen the pink and purple hair make it too far into the mainstream. Things might be changing in 2013! At Oscar de la Renta (pictured above), models rocked neon hair extensions in shades of pink, blue and yellow. The dash of bold colour still managed to look sophisticated in the models’ updos — elaborate French twists! It was very Marie Antoinette meets punk rock chic. At Peter Som, Wella Professional Color Ambassador Aura interwove extensions in shades of tourmaline, amethyst, teal, denim, and dusty rose.
