King Tutankhamen’s tomb was discovered in 1922, which led to the Egyptian Revival moment, which inspired the smoky eyed look for women! Given that it’s 1923 during season 3 of Boardwalk Empire, expect to see smoky eyes on the female characters in a big way. Hey, they have Emmy Award-winning makeup artists on this show! For a more subtle look, apply brown shadow in the crease and outer edges of the eye for definition and top off with mascara.
The famous thin, downward-sloping brows of the 1920s are fortunately no longer in fashion. If you’re going for a ’20s inspired look, don’t play up your brows. Add a touch of brow liner for more definition, if you must, but avoid making your brows look fuller.

Deep reds, brownish reds and plum lipsticks were the most popular colours for painting lips in the shape of the famous cupid’s bow from the era.
