Miley Cyrus took to Twitter yesterday to show off her spectacular abs, but what we were more obsessed with was how she rocked the faux undercut. We’ve seen a lot of stars going for the fake version of the undercut lately, including fashion icon Rachel Bilson. It takes a lot of guts to rock a real undercut like Rihanna. After all, committing to shaving the sides of your head is almost on par with getting a face tattoo… okay, not really, but it’s up there.

Even if you have a job that allows you the freedom to embody a rebellious style at the office, there’s still the fear that your hair will be too thin to pull off the undercut. There’s a very fine line between rock n’ roll chic and female pattern baldness when it comes to the undercut. That’s why we like Miley’s fake version so much.
It’s easy to achieve:
1. Make a dramatic side part
2. Pull back hair on the side with the least amount of hair and slick it back with gel. Secure it in place with bobby pins, spray with hairspray and allow the remaining loose hair to topple over it in a messy fashion. A French braid underneath also works wonders, provided it’s a tight French braid.
What do you think? Is the faux undercut just as sexy as the real deal, or does the lack of courage to actually shave half your head take away from the rebellious nature of the look?
