In Lady Gaga’s latest column for V Magazine, she insists that the type of woman who stands out from the crowd is the one with the well-manicured hands. It doesn’t matter to Gaga whether a lady gets her nails done at a salon or if she tackles her cuticles DIY-style at home; it just matters that she cares about the presentation of her hands. Gaga then broke down six reasons why every woman needs a manicure. We took a look at three of Gaga’s reasons and added in our own point of view.
HAVING A PERFECT MANICURE INSTANTLY MAKES YOU FEEL BEAUTIFUL AND CLEAN
We have to agree with Gaga there. There’s nothing like a fresh coat of red nail polish to even make washing dishes feel like you’re conducting the New York Symphony Orchestra. Almost every woman seems to be feeling this way in 2012. You’ve heard of “The Lipstick Effect,” haven’t you? It basically boils down the the idea that, in a troubled economy, women spend more money on beauty products because we all subconsciously want to feel good about ourselves. This year, nail polish had the most remarkable jump in sales. Nail products in general are up 68%, while nail colour is up 70%, and top and base coats are up 100%. Given that nail art has been one of the biggest trends of the year, thanks to stars like Zooey Deschanel and Katy Perry rocking decorative designs on their finger tips, we can’t say we’re surprised.

IT’S A WAY FOR YOU TO EXPRESS YOURSELF (CAREFUL HOW YOU DO THAT).
All anyone has to do is look at this summer’s Olympics to see that women are using their nails more than ever to express themselves. We have never seen so many ladies expressing their patriotism on the canvas that is their finger tips. Although we love a French manicure or a sophisticated coat of baby pink as much as the next girl, we still think it’s fun to dress our nails up for an occasion. Why wear a coast of black nail polish for Halloween when you can rock skulls and bones for a night?

IT FORCES YOU TO SEE THE IMPORTANCE OF MAKING TIME FOR YOURSELF.
Whether we treat ourselves to a day at the salon or make a date with ourselves in front of the TV with an episode of True Blood and our at-home mani-pedi set, there’s nothing like investing a little time into feeling beautiful. Sometimes we rush when putting on our makeup in the morning and sometimes we opt for dry shampoo instead of taking the time to blow dry our hair. Taking time to do our nails, like anything else in our beauty routine, definitely reminds us — as cheesy as it sounds — that we’re beautiful.
