The sunlight diet is making headlines as people discuss how wild and unhealthy this no food diet actually is. Apparently there are groups of people who believe that they do not need to eat food. They say they get all of the nourishment they need from the sun.
The sunlight diet is a part of ‘breatharianism’ a belief system in which people believe they can survive without food. It’s also called a “spiritual diet”, as practitioners feel they can sustain on their spirituality. Some do drink water, but others consume nothing at all.
This concept came known by Ellen Greve, who claimed to go months on nothing but a single cup of tea. Greve was featured on a 60 Minutes special where she tried to show herself going for a week with no food, but a doctor ordered her to stop after four days when she became ill.
While Greve is still alive, a number of her followers have died of starvation while try to live by the sunlight diet. There are a number of others who claim to live a healthy life without food or drink.
