Natalie Portman just tied the knot this past weekend to beau Benjamin Millepied and engaged stars like Miley Cyrus and Angelina Jolie are gearing up to walk down the aisle. Hollywood is teeming with true love right now, as some of the most beautiful women in the world get ready to say “I do.” Everyone wants to look beautiful on her big day, but it’s still tricky to decide whether you should go for a look that’s more glamourous than you’re used to, or just stick to the makeup and hair that best suits your character. We love that more and more stars are opting to do their own makeup on their weddings days and are keeping their big day looks similar to their everyday style. We took a look at some of our favourite brides from times gone by to get a little inspiration.
Kate Middleton
Kate Middleton has a reputation for being down to earth for a reason. Despite having one of the biggest weddings in history broadcast all over the world, Kate did her own makeup for her big day. Kate reportedly got lessons from makeup artist Arabella Preston on how to perfect the natural glow look of light smoky eyes, pink blush and pale pink lipstick. To literally get a bit more polished, Kate had her nails done at Jo Hansford Salon with Bourjois nail polish in Rose Lounge and Essie nail polish in Allure. Kate didn’t take the risk of doing her own hair, though. Her regular stylist James Pryce of the Richard Ward Salon and Metrospa did her hair. He wanted Kate to look like herself on her big day, so he created soft curls hanging down around her face.

Kate Moss
We weren’t surprised in the slightest that Kate Moss opted to wear her hair down for her wedding instead of in a traditional updo. Hairdresser Sam McKnight styled Kate’s hair for her 2011 wedding to The Kills frontman Jamie Hince. Kate wore her hair tousled and down, looking like a romantic maiden with her long veil. She also wore minimal makeup to match the retro glam of her John Galliano dress and middle-parted, Medieval-esque hair. Kate wore a creamy foundation, nude lips and minimal eye make-up with bold lashes, applied by makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury.
Kim Kardashian
For Kim Kardashian’s media extravanganza of a wedding, her hairdresser Peter Savic wanted to make Kim look like an old Hollywood movie star reminscent of Sophia Loren and Elizabeth Taylor. Kim wore her hair sleek and pulled back and topped off her look with a crystal tiara. Kim’s makeup was done by Mario Dedivanovic who used Lancôme 5 Pan Eyeshadow Palette in Golden Frenzy to create Kim’s smoky eye look. He swept the gold shade all over Kim’s lids, going darkest along the crease and lightest on the brow bone. He also swept the gold hue along Kim’s bottom lash line. He then applied two coats of Lancôme Hypnôse Doll Lashes mascara in So Black. Even though Kim’s marriage didn’t last, her look was timeless.

Jennifer Aniston
For Jennifer Aniston’s wedding to Brad Pitt, the California chic beauty wore her hair down with a veil pinned to the crown of her head. Celebrity hairdresser Chris McMillan, who created her famous “the Rachel” hairstyle from the Friends years, styled hair in loose waves. Jen kept her makeup looking as natural as ever, but we do know one of Jen’s secrets to looking fresh and fabulous: Before award shows and special events, Jen visits the Tracie Martyn Spa for Martyn’s signature Red Carpet Facial.

Drew Barrymore
For Drew Barrymore’s summer 2012 wedding, she followed one of our favourite hair trends of the season by wearing her hair in bun with a stunning floral tiara comb to hold her veil in place. While elegant, we love that the look also truly represents Drew’s flower child spirit. The best part about her headpiece is that she can easily wear it again without the veil.
