Some women become fashion icons, but New Girl actress Zooey Deschanel might be our very first nail icon. Zooey, who made headlines at the Golden Globes last year for her now famous tuxedo finger nail art, is already planning her next big nail debut, according to Girls star Lena Dunham. The two actresses spoke to each other yesterday after both being nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
“Zooey Deschanel and I have been e-mailing all morning, like, ‘Can you believe the women that we are getting mentioned in the same breath as?’ Also, we’re planning our Emmy nails,” said Dunham to Vulture.com yesterday. “She’s got a lot of nail style. I mean, I have a couple ideas, too. I don’t want to say … I want to shock the world with what I do, and/or be stopped from painting my nails a very strange color by my very smart and crafty publicist.”
All kidding aside, we have a feeling Zooey, at the very least, will outdo her tuxedo nails at the Emmys with something more elaborate and attention-grabbing, especially since we’ve already figured out the fairly easy formula to copying her Golden Globe tuxedo nails: Paint nails solid white with a polish like OPI’s White Shatter. Then, use a nail pen in black to draw the outline of a ribbon with five dots at the base of the nail. Then, connect the dots and fill them in with colour using the nail pen. Dot three buttons down to the tip of the nail, and then colour the end — reverse French manicure style — with the black pen. Voila! Zooey Deschanel tuxedo nails!
