Neon nails are proving to be a big trend, but it turns out the bright colours are not yet legal to produce in America, so any bright polish you see in stores or at the nail salon are imported from other countries.

Don’t worry, you and your nails are safe. When the story was released it was suggested manufacturing neon nail polishes in America is illegal, but CND Colours Scientific Advisor Doug Schoon says that’s not the case. There is nothing preventing American stores from producing the vibrant polishes, but because the trend is so new no one has yet registered the exact chemical composition to develop a neon hued polish with the FDA, so until then the look will continue to be import only and not yet legal for America. Some smaller companies are going ahead without the proper approval, but larger companies are playing it safe with very bright colours, but not neons.
With the summer months coming and neon nail polishes only growing in popularity, American nail polish producers might want to start registering.
