In beauty news, you hear about many new treatments for weight and skin care involving so called ‘breakthroughs.’ Instead of believing the hype, we went to our expert, Dr. Nowell Solish, to find out about some of the latest laser beauty treatments. Here is what he had to say.
Q: Are there laser treatments for weight loss or skin tightening that you can tell us about.
A: There are a few new “laser” treatments for fat reduction. One is called Liposonix; it uses ultrasound to break up fat cells. Basically it uses a focused ultrasound, which means it is all concentrated or focused to the fat cells. The fat cells heat up, become injured and slowly your body clears them out of your system. The procedure takes about one hour and after approximately 12 weeks, most people (close to 90%) will lose 1 inch or more around their waist line. There is really no down time, aside from some mild swelling and bruising.
Another machine called Zeltiq uses cold instead of ultrasound and injures the cells by freezing them. It is great for spot areas like the love handles, back fat or smaller areas of the stomach. Both of these procedures are non-invasive with absolutely no surgery, no cutting and no downtime.
