A new study says eating a lot of vegetables, fruits and soy may reduce your chances of getting breast cancer by up to 30 percent.
The University of Colorado studied 34,000 Chinese women. Those who ate more vegetables, fruits and soy had decreased risks of developing breast cancer. Doctors say that these findings should be similar in North American women too.
The study split eating habits into two groups: meat-starch-saturated-fat and vegetable-fruit-soy. Of the 34,028 women studied between 45 and 74 years old, 629 developed breast cancer over 10 years. They found that the more vegetables, fruit and soy the woman ate, the lower her risk of breast cancer became. They didn’t find that eating more meat caused cancer.
The doctors interview by Canada.com didn’t suggest that women become vegetarians. Instead, they say women should just eat their vegetables. They recommend having a diverse diet. Try to eat as much vegetables, fruit and soy as possible.
