In recent years, lip glosses have become very popular with women. Both drugstore and high-end brands have released numerous lines dedicated to lip glosses. In the US, lip glosses are so popular now that they account for 50% of all lip products sold.
Chanel is looking to change that. In March, Chanel is set to launch one of their biggest initiatives of the year. Rouge Coco is a range of 30 hydrating lipcolour shades that are meant to lure customers back to the lipstick counter. The new lipsticks are highly moisturizing and comfortable with Hydratendre Complex (which helps soften/smooth lips and hold in moisture). The lipsticks are priced at approx $30 each and are each named for a part of Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel’s life, such as Mademoiselle, a soft pink and Paris, a bright red.
Chanel global creative director for makeup, Peter Philips told WWD, “Women seem to have forgotten how to apply lipstick. We have a whole generation of lip-gloss girls. Now, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with lip gloss — but there is something so feminine about the act of applying lipstick. I want to make lipstick as easy to apply as lip gloss, and for a long-lasting formula to feel comfortable on the lips.”
Keep your eye out for the new Rouge Coco line this March at Chanel boutiques and Chanel counters in high end department stores.
