I am not much of a spa person, but when I was given a gift certificate to the Stillwater Spa I thought I would make the most of it. I went with a friend and made a “girls afternoon” of it.
We booked massages about a week in advance (I highly recommend you book as much in advance as you can, the appointment times book up quickly). We arrived about an hour early to check out the facilities and see what the place had to offer. We were not disappointed.
Stillwater provides a very relaxing atmosphere. Once we had been given a quick tour we got changed into comfy robes and slippers. We had access to the sauna, whirlpool and comfy private lounge areas with televisions and head phones. After checking out all the options we decided to relax by the fire and indulge in the luxurious environment. The outside world felt far away as we sat in some cushy seats and flipped through magazines. There were biscotti (tasted fresh and homemade), fruit, dried fruit, lemon water, orange water, cucumber water and a large assortment of herbal teas to be had. The hour was over quickly.
The massage was excellent, one hour of pure bliss. I actually dozed off for a few minutes. The masseuse asked about how much pressure I preferred, where my stress areas were, if I needed her to concentrate on specific areas etc. It was a custom massage just for me and my shoulders felt like jelly by the time it was over.
For the next hour we enjoyed the sauna and whirlpool and went back for more of the homemade biscotti.
Overall, it was a great experience. The ambiance is very relaxing and the staff was very pleasant and helpful. I recommend an afternoon at Stillwater to anyone who is looking for a beauty “getaway” without actually leaving the city. I had the massage, but they offer a wide range of beauty services including manicures and pedicures.
