Body Firming Creams – Do They Really Work?

With summer finally here, store shelves are lined with seasonal beauty products including the always popular body firming creams. Creams that promise to tighten, smooth and lift sagging, dimpled or loose skin are always popular in the summer. The question, however, is do body firming creams actually work or are they just a waste of your hard-earned money?

In the March 2018 issue of Real Style Magazine, we asked dermatologist Dr. Jessica Weiser with the New York Dermatology Group about the effectiveness of body firming creams. “Some active ingredients in skin care products like hyaluronic acid can make the skin more firm or taut often by drawing water to the surface of the skin. Additionally, Retin-A/retinol can stimulate collagen production. These products can soften fine lines and make skin appear smoother. Creams generally cannot produce elastin (the stretch fibers) in the skin or reverse skin laxity and stretch marks. Many cream effects can be temporary and reproduced daily when applied to the skin surface and achieve some sustainable improvements with consistent use.
