Plantain- The Latest Beauty Breakthrough For Health And Skin

PLAINTAINS

Also known as a cooking plantain, the exotic fruit plantain is a menu staple in locations like Southeast Asia, West and Central Africa, Central America and the Caribbean. Although plantains are a common sight on the dinner table in these regions (and have also become produce aisle staples here in North America), the humble plantain may also be a skincare and health breakthrough.

This fruit hails from the same family as the banana, and is packed with the benefits of Vitamins A and C. While Vitamin A plays a role in the growth of skin cells and skin health, Vitamin C is also an antioxidant which can encourage healthy, rejuvenated skin. As well, this vitamin can help to counteract the effects of free radical damage to the skin.

According to Dr. Axe, one cup of raw plantain contains 27.2 milligrams of Vitamin C and 33 per cent of the daily value of Vitamin A.

Like its close cousin the banana, plantain is also a solid source of potassium (a mineral which is essential for functioning muscles, metabolism and nervous system). Meanwhile, the high fibre content of plantain is said to assist with a balanced digestive system and the Vitamin B6 content can promote brain health.

If you’re looking for a powerful new fruit to add to your diet, it may be worth a try to stock up on plantains. After all, the idea of a strengthened body, balanced digestion and enviable skin is certainly a refreshing thought.
