Robert Pattinson recently quit smoking, allegedly because pal Leonardo DiCaprio encouraged him to ween himself off nicotine by switching to electronic cigarettes. As much damage as we all know smoking does to both our health and our looks, we’re always shocked by how many young people smoke in Hollywood, like Nina Dobrev from The Vampire Diaries and Rob’s girlfriend Kristen Stewart. We hope they understand that playing a vampire on the screen doesn’t actually make you immortal when it comes to cigarettes! We know quitting is hard, but even some of the biggest smokers in Hollywood have managed to quit over the years, proving that Rob — not to mention his girlfriend Kristen — can do it too. If you’re trying to quit or just need re-enforcement to never try it to begin with, we’ve got some inspiration for you. Here are the most high profile stars who quit smoking.

Jennifer Aniston
We were always shocked that fitness freak and avid runner Jennifer Aniston smoked cigarettes. She finally kicked the habit in 2011, provoking rumours that she was pregnant with Justin Theroux’s baby. “No, we’re not pregnant,” Jen told Hello! magazine. “It’s just I quit smoking, so I’ve gained a couple of pounds.”

Gisele Bundchen
Supermodel Gisele Bundchen — Leonardo DiCaprio’s ex-girlfriend — quit smoking when she became more domestic with now husband Tom Brady. Although she admitted to gaining 15 pounds when she quit, she didn’t pick up the habit again, despite pressure in the modeling world to stay thin. “When you stop smoking you gain weight, because food tastes better than when it tasted like (an) ashtray,” she told British GQ.

Matt Damon
Good Will Hunting actor Matt Damon decided to go to a hypnotist to rid himself of his bad habit. Damon has since said that it took just 3 sessions with the hypnotist before he quit smoking for good. “I should have done it years ago…” he told Jay Leno. “It’s amazing I didn’t even want cigarettes any more.”

Christy Turlington
Supermodel Christy Turlington smoked a pack of cigarettes a day before she lost her father to lung cancer and quit in the process. After she quit, Christy lost a few modeling jobs because of her weight gain, most notably with Yves Saint Laurent. “It is better to not even try it than to endure the ramifications of either quitting smoking or dying.”
