How To Update The Vampy Lip
Hold up, Madonna! There’s a new way to wear dark lips, and it’s sexier than ever. In the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, our favourite material girl made pale skin and dark lips look good, but it’s not a look most females could get away with today. Dark lips have a tendency to make you look older, especially on those with a pale complexion. Luckily, now there is an updated take that’s more bronzed up and fresh faced, like the one worn by Camilla Belle at the Met Gala earlier this year. Here’s how to channel Madonna while following Camilla’s lead:
• When going with a dark lip, it’s important to exfoliate before applying any coluor. Dark lips can look flaky and dry if not applied to a clean base. Try Fresh’s $22 “Sugar Lip Polish” from Sephora. It scrubs away any roughness and leaves the lips feeling incredibly soft and smooth.
• Next, be sure to prime your lips with a nude lip liner as to prevent any feathering.
• Then, when choosing a dark lip colour, try to go with a formulation that is more moisturizing as to keep things looking young, and avoid the dark and dry look. NARS lipsticks are known to be super creamy, so it might be a good place to start when on the search. One of our favorites from NARS is their $24 lipstick called “Scarlet Empress.” It’s a semi-matte blue-red.
• Finally, dust a little bronzer along your cheekbones to keep the darkness of the lips from looking too stark. We don’t expect you to look like you have a summer tan, but a little warmth goes a long way during the cold winter months.
